Homeschooling activities :: Iman, puzzles and workbooks

Iman is 3 this year.

In exact, today he turns 38mths. And he already attends playschool everyday.

My objective actually was just to introduce him to a new world, where he could play n learn, and grow relationships with new friends. I'm not really into pushing him in completing his homework and putting a target of he must achieve a certain level of reading books. Well he's only 3, and the world was supposed to revolve around him, still.

Alhamdulillah, at 3, Iman's terrible two issues subsided. He's now more attentive and loves the flexibility i gave him in doing whatever he wants with his workbook. It's sometimes entertaining to watch how he sees things in his book. Be it matching animals with silhouettes or drawing the nose and eyes of an empty face, Be point is really to encourage him to answer why he did this and that. Why he colored the elephant pink or the horse blue. And may the rainbow have all the colors of the world if he wants it to. Let the imagination grow. At this age, nothing is wrong. For me, to do the correct thing in workbook is not really the main objective at this age :)

Well, it is really up to you as a parent to point your kid in any direction you liked. For me, small children are all unique, even close siblings. Each and everyone differs from each other individually and some traits were already with the child since birth. I'm really against force and spoon feeding, and if I things get to go my way, I choose to home-school my children and let them sit for O-level at 14. Only if. Sobs.

It is supposed to be fun and full of excitement growing up, so mom's don't fret, if your small child does not finish his homework at 5yrs old. I seldom finish mine at 10. Hehehe.

I love to look at things differently actually. In Iman's and Amsyar's home-school sessions, I tried to put aside things that looked like 'schooling'. We'll have activities 30mins for each at most. And move from one activity to another if the attention is already changed or the mood had already swayed.

Amsyar may not be able to sing abc or read but he can now differenciate t-rex from stegosaurus, and knows branchiosaurus eats greens.and iman counts baby maiosaura in its nest up to 10. But sometimes a cuddle and a storybook just makes it more than enough for us too. Alhmdulillah.

Sometimes a game of puzzle is a good matching and compute game for toddlers. As both does not yet recognize letters, Iman helps amsyar match by color, and shape. I would rather watch and observe how both solve problems. Its amazing what a 3yr old could tell and explain to lil 2 yr old brother :)

Both loves books, like mommy and we can now have reading sessions upstairs while daddy finish his football match.Of course mommy with mommy's book and a cup of coffee, while the boys whether read to themselves or share a book for two.heaven just how I liked it to be. Im a bookworm of course and daddy's not.and I would really want my boys to find the joy and excitement I found in books.I love watching then mingle with books.

I have tons at home.and many torn and destroyed as well by them.but as I have mentioned before, let them be. Books can be bought easily, the interest is not. Once u lost them, it will be really difficult to instil them again :)

Well, just some ideas for the weekend fun at home.

Zahra

Tuesday..oppss Thursday Tots #2 : Homeschooling activities - Let's Count Starss :)

This entry was supposed to be loaded on Tuesday, but mommy busy these day. Postponed two days..heheheh

Bismillahirahmanirrahim :)

Happy faces when mommy says its homeschool project time! :) So today mommy decide to do some origami and to learnt actual counting :)

But as a start, we learnt to count 1-10 as basic. Next time we'll learn addition and subtraction pula ya?

So first we need the stars to work with.
Iman cuts the straight lines for mommy (well we're working on to be straight..hehehe), and mommy folds. Amsyar did some basic scissoring skills as well :) Suit him as a 22 month old toddler :)

Have you ever made small goodluck stars before? The basic is like this.

Then we work out the end to roll around the hexagon until end of strip.
Then we puff the hex to be like these...and voila! you have stars :)

Some kemek sebab ada org geram gigit :P

Dah siap stars kita count the stars.
1,2,3,4.................10

Then we have the stars lined and counted.
How many stars are here?

Ok, now give mommy 3 stars!

Ok now ,5 stars!!

Amazing how they count actually count.
Well, as long as the concept is conveyed, then its ok :)

Bersungguh mengira. Alhamdulillah. Iman can count up to 10.
Amsyar for now, up to 5..but each time we finish up to 4..he will say hi-5! hahaha :p

When they made the stars themselves (with mommy's help of course!) the counting becomes much interesting by default, inshallah :)

Next session we'll learn adding and subtracting :)

And best thing after all the countings are......

...peacefully sleeping babies.
Penat nau lagaknyer..

Happy homeschooling mommies!

Homeschool Project 2014 :: Teropong ajaib, counting shapes and blue crowns

Lets make it short and simple and lively as our weekend was full with weddings and jalan2, we had only Sunday to play J

So we decided to cut out shapes, count paper coins and make a crown out of it.
The boys really enjoyed cut and paste projects these days.

Its really simple and fun!

Amsyar counts the coins and triangles.
Blue triangles. And yellow coins.
Iman can recognize colors by now.
Shapes on the other hand are still working on with it ;p

Then we have crowns.
Do you want your coins on the crowns?
So we made the coins stick to the crowns :)

Next time maybe we could try buttons as well :)

Stick stick stick.. glueing is fun and sticky :)
Siap!! :)

making more coins

We also made a binoculars out of tissue paper roll cardboard to add fun to the kings of the day.
Yeay Iman, you’re a king today! ;)

The binoculars was a magic one. It can see through whatever you want.
*wink*

Homeschool Projects 2014 :: All about Dinosaurs Part 1

Assalam Mommies,

How is your day so far?
Esok nak cuti kan? So let's let out the positive vibes!!
For today at least :)

Just another homeschool idea that might interest you.
We were going into the dinosaurs theme this month.

ALL ABOUT DINOSAURS

So most activities were on counting dinosaurs. Reading about dinosaurs and also coloring dinosaurs.
I bought a simple encyclopedia of dinosaurs and we read together about t-rex, stegosaurus and brontosaurus and some tyrannosaurus as well :)

It was fun and amazing.
And as interesting as animals ( I think it is even more).
I told them these were the animals around long long time ago.
Before mommy was little, and grandma was little.
They are still working on that idea concept tho..hehehehe.
We'll figure out more in depth all about dinosaurs maybe before a trip to Petrosains :)

One of our dinosaurs book grabbed at BBW recently :)

One of the activities was coloring stegosaurus and tyrannosaurus :)
Mommy got them free on the net :)

Adik amsyar is a lefty :) My precious lefty.

Then later, we counted dinosaurs. Stegosaurus' on a paper.
And cut them out. and glued them on a big board with the numbers.

It's ok. Scissors and cutting skills are really quite tricky to master :)

Opps..iman, you've cut off one of the stego's fingers..uh-oh! :p

I missed taking pictures of the end product. But all the messy and glue-ey was really a nice project to do.
We are planning to do more dinosaurs projects this weekend :) Inshallah.
But it really depends on the boys.Maybe we'll do color and shapes instead :)

Homeschooling supposed to be fun and not structured and better spontaneous fun :)
Stay tuned!! ;)

Below are some of the dinosaurs printable available online. Most of the nicest are up in pinterest :)
Google up mommies. Its all free (well mostly :p)! Just to share the idea :)

Well, after all the dinosaurs stories, it does't kill to read up any books you like kan?

Share your homeschool ideas mommies. Let's built quality time.
It's not the SAHM only who have all the time.
We, working moms also can :)

Till then mommies.
Love,

Zahra
