Mencarut pagi pagi

Morning peeps!
Bukan mencarut sgt lah.
Just discussing with Iman some words he learnt.
Well, somewhere.

Two days dah Iman stayed kat school, after school for day-care.
Alhamdulillah he loves it as for now.
Dah boleh cope nampaknya. and dah dpt sesuaikan diri.

Schooling is total fun.
But with some draw-backs as well bila dh jumpa ramai budak-budak from different backgrounds.

I caught Iman saying 'babi' few times.
And in intense and 'correct' situation. Macam waktu dia tak puas hati and kena marah.
Yang plg tak tahan tu he said it to me.
I know for sure, he doesn;t even know the meaning of the word, and how it is so absurd in our society to say such thing to other ppl.
Terpengaruh dgn siapalah ni sayang?

Well the damage had been done.
*sigh*

So few days ago, i sat down with him. And asked him to bring me his farm animal book.
Sampai di page with pigs on it, i asked him " ini apa iman"
"Pigs..oink oink" -well i'm open about pigs and dogs in terms of knowledge-
"Dirty kan pigs..eiii..yucks!?"
" Eii..dirty! Pigs suka mkn sampah kan mommy?"
"Yups pigs suka makan sampah, well iman, horse in malay apa?
"Kudaaa!"
"Pandai! Well, cows?"
"Lembuuuuu..moooooo.."
"Pandai! Well, now, pigs?"
"Ermm...apa mommy?"*confused face*
"well, pigs are babi, babi tu pigs.."
" Haaaa? babi tu tak baik...nanti mommy cili sos kan mulut!"
" Hmm.pandai pun..Tp babi tu pigs. Klu kita ckp org babi, kita samakan dia dgn pigs. makan sampah.dirty..takbaik kan?"
"Ooooooooooo..."
"Iman faham tak?"
"Faham. Tp boleh ke cakap babi?"
"Ish..sebab tulah tak boleh, mana boleh ckp tak baik kat org.."
"oooooooooo..habis boleh ckp apa?"
"Boleh ckp yang baik baik je.."
"Boleh ckp kuda?"
"Kuda boleh, tp kenapa nk cakap kuda?"
" Heheheheheehe....amsyaaarrr kuuudddaaaaaa!"
*runs away*

I really hopes he remembers that.really.
But then later..

Iman : " Daddy do you know babi tu apa?"
" Babi? *jeleing to mommy* Hish cakap apa ni?"
" Ni lah babi.." *showing his farm animals book*
" Yups ini babi. pig"
"Takbaik kan ckp babi daddy?"
" Yups tak baik"

Daddy : Yang,Ok ke ajar dia cmni?
Mommy: At least dia tahu perkara sebenar.

I'm far from being a good mom.
But really hoping to be a good example and moral icon for Iman.
Well, all moms out there does too kan?

Happy weekends lovelies!

Homeschooling activities :: Iman, puzzles and workbooks

Iman is 3 this year.

In exact, today he turns 38mths. And he already attends playschool everyday.

My objective actually was just to introduce him to a new world, where he could play n learn, and grow relationships with new friends. I'm not really into pushing him in completing his homework and putting a target of he must achieve a certain level of reading books. Well he's only 3, and the world was supposed to revolve around him, still.

Alhamdulillah, at 3, Iman's terrible two issues subsided. He's now more attentive and loves the flexibility i gave him in doing whatever he wants with his workbook. It's sometimes entertaining to watch how he sees things in his book. Be it matching animals with silhouettes or drawing the nose and eyes of an empty face, Be point is really to encourage him to answer why he did this and that. Why he colored the elephant pink or the horse blue. And may the rainbow have all the colors of the world if he wants it to. Let the imagination grow. At this age, nothing is wrong. For me, to do the correct thing in workbook is not really the main objective at this age :)

Well, it is really up to you as a parent to point your kid in any direction you liked. For me, small children are all unique, even close siblings. Each and everyone differs from each other individually and some traits were already with the child since birth. I'm really against force and spoon feeding, and if I things get to go my way, I choose to home-school my children and let them sit for O-level at 14. Only if. Sobs.

It is supposed to be fun and full of excitement growing up, so mom's don't fret, if your small child does not finish his homework at 5yrs old. I seldom finish mine at 10. Hehehe.

I love to look at things differently actually. In Iman's and Amsyar's home-school sessions, I tried to put aside things that looked like 'schooling'. We'll have activities 30mins for each at most. And move from one activity to another if the attention is already changed or the mood had already swayed.

Amsyar may not be able to sing abc or read but he can now differenciate t-rex from stegosaurus, and knows branchiosaurus eats greens.and iman counts baby maiosaura in its nest up to 10. But sometimes a cuddle and a storybook just makes it more than enough for us too. Alhmdulillah.

Sometimes a game of puzzle is a good matching and compute game for toddlers. As both does not yet recognize letters, Iman helps amsyar match by color, and shape. I would rather watch and observe how both solve problems. Its amazing what a 3yr old could tell and explain to lil 2 yr old brother :)

Both loves books, like mommy and we can now have reading sessions upstairs while daddy finish his football match.Of course mommy with mommy's book and a cup of coffee, while the boys whether read to themselves or share a book for two.heaven just how I liked it to be. Im a bookworm of course and daddy's not.and I would really want my boys to find the joy and excitement I found in books.I love watching then mingle with books.

I have tons at home.and many torn and destroyed as well by them.but as I have mentioned before, let them be. Books can be bought easily, the interest is not. Once u lost them, it will be really difficult to instil them again :)

Well, just some ideas for the weekend fun at home.

Zahra

Berpisah susu

Gambar macho abg amsyar satu :)
Abg amsyar sb this yr nak dpt lg dua adik spupu :)

This coming May this little boy I named Zulhafidzey Amsyar is turning 2. Alhmdulillah.

Cuma harini nak bercerita tentang cerai susu. This may not be everyone's cup of tea, but its ok, menambahkan ilmu.if you have been following my blog (really thank you for that!) i believe that u know i really write about anything, from treatments, happenings, politics, you name it. Caca merba, but this is what life is.I really love little projects to research and work with, and share some interesting findings

Alhmdulillah, amsyar was fully breastfed until 1 yr old, and then was on alternate milk until 18mths.Then mommy stopped pumping.and cont only feedings at night. Balik kerja je, mmg seronok la amsyar, bila supply full je.mommy plak kuat mkn.byk lah susunya..hahaha.Alhmdulillah..I feel so blessed. I do believe that after 1yr, when the child starts eating good food, mommy's milk is just supplementary, and of course the method for the baby to feel comfortably hugged by the mom.

But reaching 24mths ni, I feel that i had enough.
amsyar had enough feedings.sometimes he just need the cuddles which he had related with being breastfed eversince he was born. So I guess cerai susu will surely be a big deal to him.

I tried to be very gentle and subtle to not let him feel rejected. So I limit the nursing time gradually and tried to procrastinate at times, telling him.." sekejap sayang mommy mandi dulu.." or " makan nasi dulu lepas lepas ni kita minum ok". Or sometimes the drastic "susu habis lah adik..kejap lg baru ada". Cruel eh? Hahaha.

Well 2yrs is quite enough.

Some suggested to put some asam jawa.or maybe a little salt. Tp xsanggup lg kot.
Maybe gradually will work.
Night feedings pun i've limited to bedtime only. In the middle of the nights, kalau nak, kita bg botol susu.

Tgn debab..main vacuum mommy!

I target to wholly stop by this coming 23rd of May, another 1 mth+ to go adik.Mommy know u'll survive. Ur a big boy now, kan? Don't worry mommy love you always, sayang semestinya.

Pray for me. Inshallah will be OK.

Amin.

Have a nice weekend peeps!

Zahra

Watch Engs! Hehehe..

Iman is truly daddy's boy.
He cries for daddy each time.
When a nightmare woke him up.
When he fell down.
A total opposite to Amsyar, or any other lil boys his age i guess. Yes, who wants mommy instead.
Each time.

I don't really mind. Daddy is my other half eventually kan.
And makes my life waaay easier :p

But some dialogues with Iman that shows how much  had influenced him after all. More in story telling sessions and readings. Well, he's truly a  daddy's boy but mommy will always spice his personality once in a while, right?

In his play sessions with daddy (those wrestling-ultramen sessions which mommy tak kuasa nak join!)..

" Daddy, tepi Iman nak fire ni!!!! Fire! Fire-engine! Fire man!!!!"
Hihihi.. keluaq dah segala dlm buku cerita dia!

"Daddy! Jaga jaga iman meteorite nak langgar bumi! Daddy jadi bumi!"

Yes. You heard (read) it right.
He said meteorite! Just like mommy always read to him (^.^)

Sometimes you can catch words like dinosaurs, Jurassic, construction work, and a few more mommy cannot recall in his conversation.Esp with 2yrs old amsyar (--")

Its just fun to listen to all those words from a 3 year old boy.
But some came out so funny instead as well.

" Mommy jom lah! Watchengs!"
" What iman, mommy cannot understand you"\
" Watchengs! Watchengs!!!! Shoving his hands"
" Oh Wash hands! Mashallah! Why mommy didn't notice that!"
" Yeah...wash ends!"
" Waaaaaaaaaaash..hands!"
"Ok"

Hahahaha..you wait lil iman.

But yesterday mommy nearly faint hearing this.

" Mommy, bukalah sofia (Sofia the first)."
" Belum ada lg, tggu pukul 10 br ada sofia iman"
" Ala nk sofia. Sofia cantik"

Errr.. (--")
Perlu ke cantik?

Homeschool Projects 2014 :: All about Dinosaurs Part 1

Assalam Mommies,

How is your day so far?
Esok nak cuti kan? So let's let out the positive vibes!!
For today at least :)

Just another homeschool idea that might interest you.
We were going into the dinosaurs theme this month.

ALL ABOUT DINOSAURS

So most activities were on counting dinosaurs. Reading about dinosaurs and also coloring dinosaurs.
I bought a simple encyclopedia of dinosaurs and we read together about t-rex, stegosaurus and brontosaurus and some tyrannosaurus as well :)

It was fun and amazing.
And as interesting as animals ( I think it is even more).
I told them these were the animals around long long time ago.
Before mommy was little, and grandma was little.
They are still working on that idea concept tho..hehehehe.
We'll figure out more in depth all about dinosaurs maybe before a trip to Petrosains :)

One of our dinosaurs book grabbed at BBW recently :)

One of the activities was coloring stegosaurus and tyrannosaurus :)
Mommy got them free on the net :)

Adik amsyar is a lefty :) My precious lefty.

Then later, we counted dinosaurs. Stegosaurus' on a paper.
And cut them out. and glued them on a big board with the numbers.

It's ok. Scissors and cutting skills are really quite tricky to master :)

Opps..iman, you've cut off one of the stego's fingers..uh-oh! :p

I missed taking pictures of the end product. But all the messy and glue-ey was really a nice project to do.
We are planning to do more dinosaurs projects this weekend :) Inshallah.
But it really depends on the boys.Maybe we'll do color and shapes instead :)

Homeschooling supposed to be fun and not structured and better spontaneous fun :)
Stay tuned!! ;)

Below are some of the dinosaurs printable available online. Most of the nicest are up in pinterest :)
Google up mommies. Its all free (well mostly :p)! Just to share the idea :)

Well, after all the dinosaurs stories, it does't kill to read up any books you like kan?

Share your homeschool ideas mommies. Let's built quality time.
It's not the SAHM only who have all the time.
We, working moms also can :)

Till then mommies.
Love,

Zahra

Homeschool Projects 2014 :: The Lion Mask!

Session 2014 has begun! Yeay!!
I have not yet really list down the activities and the wish lists of projects, so we go by random for now.

This week we decided to do lion masks. To explore on using scissors (highly under supervision of course!) and also how glue..makes to paper stick together. Iman is already ready to comprehend on the function of the scissors and had fun on doing it. Amsyar on the other hand, was really into glue at the moment.

Ok. so what do we want to do today?
Yeay! One lion mask and one tigerr!! So lets trace two rounds on a cardboard paper. Here in Malaysia's bookstores it is called manila card.

After tracing we cut through the paper. Mommy did some final trimmings just to make it tidy.

Then we made cut out ears and lion mane for the lion and tiger triangle stripes for the tiger. Then mane was nicely cut-out by Iman. Mommy helped to curl the mane with a pencil.

Then its time to glue! Ears, then mane. Then the stripes! Yeay! Gluing is sticky and fun!

Then mommy helped to draw the ears, nose and lion's mouth. Don't forget the sharp teeth :)
Cut the eye holes! And voila!! The mask is ready!!

It was a fun-tastic activity!!!
Amsyar glued other things as well and poured half the bottle of the glue onto the carpet. But mommy says its ok, that's part of the activity and learning process as well :)

Come and have a try on this..its really ROaRsome!!! :)

Iman goes to school part 2

Alhmdulillah iman had finished his orientation week. And today the learning process begins. I hope everything seems interesting to Iman and he is happy with it. I don't want to set any limits or expectations to Iman, and let him explore with what he likes. He's in generation alpha afterall.

It's afterall preschool cum playschool. Not even the real school yet :) Really, if ada rezeki lebih, mommy wil enroll you to Montessori concept school. inshalllah.

Today, he toddles cheerfully to school.
Kissed mommy and daddy and waived goodbye. Finally!!! Such a good boy.already all big and brave :) I think finally he gets to the idea that school is fun :)Alhamdulillah :) :) :)

Spot iman?  :)
I asked him ysterday were the cikgu nice..

He said, "takde cikgu, ada teacher"
"Ohoo.. teacher.Teacher baik tak?"
"Teacher baik"
"Teacher ajar apa?"
"Teacher ajar nyanyi songs"
"Owh sing songs? Songs apa?"
"Ahaa sing songs,  abc, 123, little shtarshss"

Hehehe..shtarshs..

"So best x school?"
"Besttttt!!!"
Ok.that's a really great relieve for mommy :)
" Iman mkn x kat school?" -Angguk- "Iman mkn apa?"
" makan nasi, fish, shayurr"

Hmm..a doubt that a lil..

That night, while helping me hang out laundry at 10pm, iman pointed out and asked.
"Tu apa mommy?"
" owh tu moon"
"moon? Shtarss la"
" tu moon, stars yg kecik kecik, twinkle twinkle"
" Oh..!"
Then he started singing " Twinkle lil stars" till the end..
Oh dah pandai!! He nvr sang the whole song. I was so amazed!

"Siapa ajar this song?"
"Teacher!"
"Kat sekolah ke?"
"Kat school la mommy!!"
" ok..school"
(--")

So many he could learn in just so little time.
3year olds are really sponges as it's said.

Happy mommy you have found confidence within yourself to be alone at school. Hopefully you grow up to be a strong, healthy, confident and soleh khalifah.
Amin :)

Mommy loves you iman.
Mommy loves you soooo much!!!

Ten ways to build your child's self-esteem :)

Nice article that might be useful for me and also for you :)

Nurturing your child's self-esteem may seem like a hefty responsibility. After all, a feeling of self-worth lays the foundation for your child's future as he sets out to try new things on his own.
"Self-esteem comes from having a sense of belonging, believing that we're capable, and knowing our contributions are valued and worthwhile," says family therapist Jane Nelsen, coauthor of the Positive Discipline series.
"As any parent knows, self-esteem is a fleeting experience," says Nelsen. "Sometimes we feel good about ourselves and sometimes we don't. What we are really trying to teach our kids are life skills like resiliency."
Your goal as a parent is to ensure that your child develops pride and self-respect – in himself and in his cultural roots – as well as faith in his ability to handle life's challenges (for a school-age child that may mean giving a dance performance for you).
Here are ten simple strategies to help boost your child's self-esteem:

1. Give unconditional love (cinta tanpa syarat)

A child's self-esteem flourishes with the kind of no-strings-attached devotion that says, "I love you, no matter who you are or what you do." Your child benefits the most when you accept her for who she is regardless of her strengths, difficulties, temperament, or abilities. So, lavish her with love. Give her plenty of cuddles, kisses, and pats on the shoulder. And don't forget to tell her how much you love her.
When you do have to correct your child, make it clear that it's her behavior – not her – that's unacceptable. For instance, instead of saying, "You're so naughty! Why can't you be good?" say, "Please don't throw the ball in the house. A ball is an outside toy."

2. Pay attention (beri perhatian).

Carve out time to give your child your undivided attention. That does wonders for your child's feelings of self-worth because it sends the message that you think he's important and valuable. It doesn't have to take a lot of time. It just means taking a moment to stop flipping through the mail if he's trying to talk with you or putting aside your smartphone long enough to answer a question (daddy hope ur reading this and stop ur coco crush game ;p).
Make eye contact so it's clear that you're really listening to what he's saying. When you're strapped for time, let your child know it without ignoring his needs. Say, "Tell me all about what happened at soccer practice. When you're finished, I need to make our dinner."

3 Teach limits.
Establish a few reasonable, consistent rules for your child. For instance, if you tell her to wear her helmet when she rides her bike in the driveway, don't let her go without it at her friend's house. And if she breaks a rule, be sure she knows what the consequence is beforehand. ("If you don't wear your bike helmet, you don't get to ride your bike.") Knowing that certain family rules are set in stone helps her feel more secure. She'll start to live by your expectations soon enough. Just be clear and consistent and show her that you trust her and expect her to do the right thing.

4. Support healthy risks.
Encourage your child to explore something new, such as trying a different food, making a new friend, or riding a skateboard. Activities that promote cooperation rather than competition, like mentoring programs or volunteering, are especially helpful in building self-esteem. Though there's always the possibility of failure, without risk there's little opportunity for success.
So let your child safely experiment, and resist the urge to intervene. For instance, try not to "rescue" him the minute he's showing mild frustration at figuring out how to read a tricky word. Jumping in to say, "I'll do it" can foster dependence and diminish your child's confidence. You'll build his self-esteem by balancing your need to protect him with his need to tackle new tasks.

5. Let mistakes happen.
The flip side, of course, of having choices and taking risks is that sometimes your child is bound to make mistakes. These are valuable lessons for your child's confidence.
So if your child misses the school bus because she was dawdling in his bedroom, encourage her to think about what she might do differently next time. That way her self-esteem won't sag and she'll understand that it's okay to make mistakes sometimes.
When you goof up yourself, admit it, says Daniel Meier, assistant professor of elementary education at San Francisco State University. Acknowledging and recovering from your mistakes sends a powerful message to your child – it makes it easier for your child to accept his own difficulties.
Self reminder : Let it happen but don't nag!

6. Celebrate the positive.(I like this one!)
Everyone responds well to encouragement, so make an effort to acknowledge the good things your child does every day within his earshot. For instance, tell his dad, "Peter did all his chores today without prompting." He'll get to bask in the glow of your praise and his dad's heartening response.
And be specific. Instead of saying "Good job," say, "Thank you for setting the table for dinner." This will enhance his sense of accomplishment and self-worth and let him know exactly what he did right.

7. Listen well.
If your child needs to talk, stop and listen to what she has to say. She needs to know that her thoughts, feelings, desires, and opinions matter.
Help her get comfortable with her emotions by labeling them. Say, "I understand you're sad because you can't go to the sleepover." By accepting her emotions without judgment, you validate her feelings and show that you value what she has to say.
If you share your own feelings ("I'm worried about Grandma. She's very sick."), she'll gain confidence in expressing his own.
Mine would be - Iman sedih ye nak mkn aiskrim daddy tak bagi. Jangan sedih. Cuba tanya daddy kenapa tak boleh.

8. Resist comparisons.
Comments such as "Why can't you be more like your brother?" or "Why can't you be nice like Evan?" just remind your child of where he struggles in a way that fosters shame, envy, and competition. Even positive comparisons, such as "You're the best player," are potentially damaging because a child can find it hard to live up to this image.
If you let your child know that you appreciate him for the unique individual he is, he'll be more likely to value himself too.

9. Offer empathy and redirect inaccurate beliefs.

If your child compares himself unfavorably to his siblings or peers ("Why can't I throw a football like Nicholas?"), show him empathy and then emphasize one of his strengths. For instance, say, "You're right. Nicholas is good at throwing a football. And you're a fast runner."
And if he goes into a tailspin of negativity and self-doubt ("I can't do math. I'm a bad student."), help him see things in a more realistic light. Say something like, "You are a good student, you just have trouble with math. Let's work on it together and see if we can figure it out."
This can help your child learn that we all have strengths and weaknesses, and that he doesn't have to be perfect to feel good about himself. But if you're concerned that something deeper may be at play, ask your child more detailed questions about school, friends, and how he views himself. You might decide it's best to talk to a counselor or mental health specialist.

10. Provide encouragement.

Every child needs the kind of support from loved ones that signals, "I believe in you. I see your effort. Keep going!" Encouragement means acknowledging progress – not just rewarding achievement. So if your child is struggling with a math problem, say: "You're trying very hard and you almost have it!" instead of "Not like that. Let me do it."
There's a difference between praise and encouragement. One rewards the task while the other rewards the person ("You did it!" rather than "I'm proud of you!").
Praise can make a child feel that she's only "good" if she does something perfectly. Encouragement, on the other hand, acknowledges the effort. "Tell me about the game. I saw you really hustling out there" is more helpful than saying, "You're the best player on the team."
Too much praise can sap self-esteem because it can create pressure to perform and set up a continual need for approval from others. Give your child the message that the effort – and seeing something through to the end – is what's important.
So dole out the praise judiciously and offer encouragement liberally. That will help your child grow up to feel good about herself.

Tadika Arif Minda :: Bandar Saujana Putra

Assalamualaikum wbt mommies!
Nice Wednesday morning isnt it?Gloomy and raining and cold.
Nice if i could get my dose of kopi 0 and nasi lemak.
And a pillow afterwards.

...

As promised before, here is my review for Tadika Arif Minda BSP. We have attended Arif Minda's open day last Saturday, viewed the facility, meet and greet the teachers and paid registration fees just to ensure we got a place after the final review. The school itself,is a nice double storey corner lot House in Desa Saujana near to in BSP. A comfortable clean and new environment it really made me felt invited and cosy.

We were told that they accepted kids from as early as 3yrs old, 4,5 and 6 years old for a maximum 17-20 students per class. Each year has a class teacher, they have one cook and another two helpers in their facilities. Classes begins at 8am and ends at 12pm, and they offer day care afterwards charged either monthly or hourly depending on the parents choice.

Arif minda classes were taught in both Malay and English and they offer basic subjects which includes aqidah and tauhid and also basic elements like prayers, doa and Islamic akhlaq, which is a good start. Well, it is no harm in having this school for Iman's playschool.

Dari segi silibus sbnrnya saya pn xbrpa pandai nk komen Dan tak buat lg full in depth research utk sekolah sekolah lain, tp sekolah ni menitikberatkan galakan kpd anak sejauh mana dia boleh kehadapan. The learning sessions are thematic in accordance to the calender of the year, for example ramadhan,or maulidur rasul. Im not sure whether its a good method or not so we'll see how things goes on.

Other than that this school offers program membaca with Read Easy Ladybird and Bacalah Anakku and also Alfurqan Quran basis. They also offer PE, gardening activities, water play and also yearly sports day and graduation. So far so good.Just normal of what i expected a kindergarten would be.

Fees structure would be RM190 per month for school only without daycare and a registration and yearly fees (including uniform and Jan fees) of RM1324. For further details you can also log in their website Tadika Arif Minda

The brochure, and fees structure

The fee structure.Reasonable,eh?

My plan was to send iman here for two years and then continue with a basic Montessori oriented school to elevate his skills. Iman would be a great footballer/athlete as well from what i can observe now. You would definitely be awed in how hard he could kick a ball or throw a pen/toy directly aimed on something (like mommy or amsyar) (--").

I really hope Iman would enjoy and play and learn new things here. The most important thing is he is happy here and enjoy his introduction to school. For me, I am not really strict into yearly achievements academically but more onto character building, independence and self esteem integrated into Iman and also the first tints in tawheed knowledge. Iman enjoy yourself. Don't worry, just explore and learn and explore new world. There is so much out there for you :)

Take care Iman.
Mommy hope this school is good for you.

Love you always..

Mommy
